  8. QUESTION:
What zit treatment should I use?
I have extremely dry skin, and because of that I get a whole bunch of pimples all over! I get them all in the t-zone; my forehead, nose, cheeks, and chin. I have tried clean & Clear, neutrogena, acnefree, murad, and many other over-the-counter products. Right now I am using proactiv. It seems to be working very slowly. Any suggestions?

    • ANSWER:
I would keep on using the proactiv. I find that even though it may take awhile for your pimples to heal & clear up, proactiv works very well as long as you use it consistently (twice a day, every day!!). As for your dry skin, the third step in proactiv provides very good moisture, so your skin should be just fine. Also look into using the refining mask my the proactiv company, it works very well and very quickly!

Good luck, I know acne is really frustrating!

  9. QUESTION:
who uses the neutrogena wave?/what is the best zit cream/ spot treatment or whatever?

  10. QUESTION:
Quickest on the spot zit treatment?
Anyone know a product that I can use to quickly get rid of a zit? I have it right in the middle of my boobs (!) and I have a party on Friday/Saturday night, not sure, and my dress doesn't block my cleavage area! Any suggestions?

    • ANSWER:
You know what tends to dry mine out really quick? Toothpaste. It MUST be paste, not gel. And rubbing alcohol can help get rid of it, too, because it will kill the bacteria. I don't recommend using the alcohol for a long period of time because eventually it'll cause your pores to freak and produce more oil. I'm an esthetician, so I shouldn't even be talking about using alcohol on your skin BUT it can be a quick fix! Also, if it's red, taking aspirin/tylenol can help reduce the redness because it is an anti-inflammatory. If you can get to a spa/salon and don't mind spending a few bucks, Dermalogica makes a GREAT medicated acne gel. Worst case, wear a long necklace with a pendant! Good luck!

How Can I Get Rid Of Acne Before A Big Date?

Why is it that right before a big date, interview or event, we always seem to get one giant zit right in the middle of our face? Is it terrible timing or something else? Regardless of the reason, one question on everyone"s mind is "How can I get rid of a big zit FAST?"

The absolute best plan of action you could take is to make an appointment at the spa for a high frequency treatment, commonly referred to as the zit zapper! During a high frequency treatment, a glass electrode is applied directly to a pimple. The machine emits a mild electric current that is germicidal. The treatment only lasts a few minutes, but acne-causing bacteria are killed, inflammation is reduced, and even monster zits heal very quickly after treatment.

If you can"t get an appointment with an area spa for a high frequency treatment, there are some at home remedies you can try that will help speed up the healing process. First and foremost---NEVER ATTEMPT TO POP YOUR ZIT. I know you think this will help it go away faster, but what will most likely happen is that you will spread the bacteria contained within the blemish, which will lead to additional pimples, as well as create an acne scar on your face. Additionally, because you are not properly trained in removing bacteria from within a blemish, it is likely that much of the bacteria will remain inside your pore and another pimple will become trapped under the scab you created.

Here are a few things you can do to help reduce the size of a zit:

1- Apply a topical medication like benzoyl peroxide. You can find this in almost every over-the-counter acne medication like Clearisil for example.
2- Take a q-tip soaked with rubbing alcohol and press on the affected area to kill any bacteria. You can also use camphor which I recommend to many of my clients.
3""Thoroughly wash the area with a medicated acne cleanser containing salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide to help keep the area around the pimple clean,
4""Keep your fingers away and be patient!

If you are able to apply some rubbing alcohol or benzoyl peroxide medication, your zit should dramatically decrease in size within 2-3 days. You must be patient or you will risk aggravating the problem even more.

Effective Pimple Treatments And Home Remedies

Pimples for the most part are really nothing but mild forms of acne. They appear in two forms: blackheads and whiteheads. It becomes difficult to cure pimples when they develop into cysts that contain pus. Some of the most prevalent pimple treatments are listed down here in the order of their usage by those who suffer from pimples.

Instant Remedies - Undoubtedly the first forms of treatment that pimple sufferers would prefer are easily available instant remedies such as creams, gels, herbal face packs etc. Most of these remedies which are commercially sold contain azelaic acid and hyaluronic acid. These two acids aid the generation of natural collagen in the skin and cause tightening of the skin. It is not necessary for one to have a dermatologist's prescription in order to buy these products. They can be found in all medical stores. Various brands produce a number of pimple treatments and products based on the severity of the pimples. It is however advised that one does not resort to over usage because it would cause some adverse effects.

Home-made remedies - The next thing an individual would do when commercial products fail to cure pimples is undertaking home based pimple treatments. Good dietary practices such as not consuming fried foods and taking in more vegetables and fresh fruits are part of home remedies. Vitamin A,B,C tablets and zinc also do come under home based pimple treatments. Home remedies are very easy to follow and they are more effective when combined with other chemical treatments.

Oral and prescription drugs - These treatments are supposed to be used only when over the counter products fail to cure the pimple trouble and it is essential to get a dermatologist's prescription before starting to use them. Benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid are two of the most widely used topical applications. Some of the oral medications include retin-A, isotretinonin, tetracycline and birth control pills. In real, a combination of drugs is prescribed by dermatologists in order to ward off pimples. But these treatments work best only for moderate to severe pimples. Cure in these cases come along with side effects as dizziness, rashes, nausea, redness and dryness of skin. Therefore it may be essential for individuals to take all kinds of precautionary measures, when they undertake these type of treatments and methods.

Surgical Methods - The absolute last resort I would recommend is surgical procedures if all other methods mentioned above fail to cure the problem. Thanks to the rapid advancements in technology, we now have a lot of surgical procedures to help us get rid of pimples. Dermabrasion, surgical incision, punch incision and light therapy are some of the most commonly used surgical pimple treatments. It is required of a patient to sit through 3-6 sessions in order to get the desired result. Apart from demanding more money from the patient, surgical procedures also demand a lot of extra care and efforts to sustain the result obtained.

Alternative Procedures - The formation and appearance of pimples can be restricted due to a huge extent when a combination of the treatments mentioned above is used. But it has to be noted that treatment methods belonging to various traditional medicinal practices throughout the country are emerging as the contenders for pimple treatments. People are unwilling to follow these methods because of lack of proper knowledge. These traditional medicinal systems include yoga, hypnosis, acupressure, acupuncture, homoeopathy, mind and cognitive therapy. The one factor that unites all these traditional methods of curing pimples is the concept that 'identifying the real cause would reveal the best remedy'. These methods normally give the desired results, but patience is definitely required because they take some time and effort with the healing process and may vary with each individual.

Acne Medication

Acne Medication - Is Metrogel Effective?

If acne is bothering you, you will need to deal with it before it goes out of control. There are several kinds of acne and one of the kinds is called the acne rosacea. There is no permanent cure to this type of acne but Metrogel has been proved quite effective in battling the outbreaks and reducing their occurrence. However, if Metrogel does not suit your needs then you can try the topical medicines that work against acne.

Do you feel embarrassed to go out and meet your friend because of the zits on your face? Well if you do then you are not the only one. Acne is a skin disease that is characterized by several inflammatory follicular papules and result is blemishes on the skin-especially the face. Acne develops when the pores of your skin gets clogged. Pore clogging occurs mainly due to excess secretion of sebum. The acnes can look very unsightly and you have to get rid of them as soon as you can. There are several kinds of acne medication and you can try them out. However, never opt for these medications without consulting your dermatologist. A really good cure against acne rosacea can be provided by Metrogel. Metrogel reviews will vouch for its effectiveness against the pimples.

However, before you read the Metrogel reviews you need to know a bit about the product. Metrogel is manufactured by Galderma Laboratories and you have to use this acne medication once everyday. Its most important ingredient is Metronidazole and it works quite effectively against infections. There is no permanent cure for acne rosacea. Metrogel however, controls the outbreak of acne and gives you a smoother and healthier skin. It also reduces the redness and the lesions that are related to acne rosacae.

Are you wondering how effective an acne medication Metrogel is? The truth is Metrogel is quite effective. If you read the Metrogel reviews you will find out that it contains no alcohol. This means it does not rob your skin of the moisture and does not have any kind of adverse effect on the outer layer of the skin. As its active ingredients are combined in a 92% water based gel, Metrogel will also moisturize and soothe your skin. You will need to apply the gel once daily and the smooth consistency of the gel makes it very easy to apply.

However if your read the Metrogel reviews you will find out it is not without certain side effects. Excessive application of Metronidazole can cause a burning or a stinging sensation in your skin. If you want to avoid this you can opt for other kinds of acne medication. A very common medication for treating pimples is Benzoyl Peroxide. It is an anti bacterial agent and it works by providing oxygen to the clogged skin pores. More oxygen proves fatal to the anaerobic bacteria and Benzoyl Peroxide wipes out the organisms that cause pimples.

Another acne medication you can try is the Salicylic acid. It has exfoliating properties and it will peel off your outer dead cells by loosening the substance that binds the skin cells. It can go deep into the pores of the skin and hasten the growth of new cells. Topical retinoids also works well against acne outbreaks. You can read the Metrogel reviews and then read the reviews on these medications and take your pick. However, do not forget to consult your dermatologist before you decide what to use against acne.

i've been battling acne since i hit puberty and have used several different types of acne meds. many times, you can just go see your family doctor who will give you basic acne meds. if this doesn't help, they'll refer you to a dermatologist. the times i've been perscribed meds, its always been in three parts, an oral antibiotic such as tetracycline or monocycline, a topical antibiotic - clindamycin, and retin A. these have always worked fairly well for me. right now, i'm on a 5% benzoyl peroxide wash, topical clindamycin and retin A and my skin is clear. the only side effect i've had is very very dry skin for the first week and a half. after that, your skin gets used to it and goes back to almost normal.
i've noticed that with my acne, if i don't use my perscriptions everyday, i get zits. this stuff doesn't cure acne for good, it just clears up your skin, so its more of a long term thing.
if you want to try something not perscription, consider trying proactive, i've used this before too and had great results.

    • ANSWER:

  6. QUESTION:
Should I stop using a topical acne medication if my face has become dry?
Lately I have been using topical acne treatment where the main parts of my acne were (T-zone), and after about a week of using the medication, the acne has significantly cleared up. Even though, every time I wash my face I can see that the places where I used the medication have become dry and somewhat flakey. Seeing this I used a acne-preventing moisturizer and that helps during the day but my skin is still dry after I wash it. Should I still continue this routine?

    • ANSWER:
You can use astringent to get rid of the flakes, but be gentle about it because it might sting. If you could possibly lessen the usage, you should. Also, you might be able to get away with just dabbing your pimples with the medication so that it doesn't damage the blemish-free skin around it.

  8. QUESTION:
What is the best oral acne medication to take?
I have adult acne (Inflammatory acne ) and i'v taken the topical meds but they do not work and i am going to the dermotolegest today and i would like to be in the know about the best oral medication out there.

    • ANSWER:
Here are just a few tips to treat them so they would disappear and not multiply.

First of all, when you see a small pimple, try to avoid the temptation of popping it. Popping it can cause it to multiply as it can spread the infection underneath the skin and the next morning you'd find dozens of them on your face! If ever you do pop a zit, make sure you wash it with soap and water or some alcohol to avoid the risk of infection.

Second, wash your face morning and night using mild soap or facial wash. You need to keep your face clean but you don't need strong cleansers to do this. Stay with the mild ones so you would avoid irritation.

Third, choose the right toner. Toner is the new astringent as it's a lot gentler to the skin. After washing your face, apply facial toner.

Fourth, exfoliate. Don't exfoliate your skin everyday! Exfoliate every three days and use a gentle scrub. Don't use a product that once used would make your face feel like it's been scrubbed by sandpaper. Your facial skin is really sensitive and it can't handle such beating. Be gentle with it.

Lastly, get enough sleep. Not enough sleep can cause pimple breakouts so make sure you get 8 hours of sleep a night. Sleep is a very important thing as it reduces your stress level. Stress influences acne breakouts so in order to reduce your stress level, get some sleep! When you have plenty of sleep, you don't only get rid of acne but you feel much happier too!

I don't know if any pharmacies stock Acnezine but I do know that you should purchase it directly from the manufacturer and read more about the product via the offical site http://www.acnezine.com/?aid=853116

It's really worked for me ive been through a number of different products but this is by far the best

      Best Of Luck!

Best Acne Scar Treatment - How To Get Rid Of Acne And Pimple Scars

If you are determined in getting rid of all those imperfections in your skin once and for all, then you are reading the right article. When youre ready to bring out the big guns, then you need to know the best acne scar treatment.

Start with the lighter one of these big guns - Dermabrasion and microdermabrasion. These processes are relatively gentler than the next ones that will be enumerated. However, they are very effective in their own right. Undergoing dermabrasion or microdermabrasion means having the topmost layers of your skin buffed off or exfoliated. At first you will observe your skin to be rough, but after regular follow-up treatments, you can see the results of a smoother and clearer skin because the continuous exfoliation allows the acne and pimple scars to fade faster than you are willing to wait for.

Laser treatment is also a very popular method for those who truly want to get rid of those pesky dark marks. Laser treatment operates by removing the dark pigmentation that has been caused by acne. The visibility of these scars is ultimately reduced to null and some even only need one treatment to get it done. Others need about two or more depending on the severity of pigmentation caused by the acne. Laser treatment has pretty much received good reviews when it comes to the instant visibility of results.

Soft-tissue augmentation may also be considered. This process of tissue augmentation is also called dermal fillers. Because the scars are caused by tissue deficiency, this treatment replaces the lost tissue. Subcutaneous fat may be injected below the scars or artificial collagen in order to smoothen out the skin texture and make it look as smooth as before.

For those still unsatisfied with these tips on best acne scar treatment, the heaviest gun is in the form of acne surgery. With the help of a credible and experienced practitioner, you can have your acne scars treated in a more (and literally) hands-on way. This treatment involves minor surgeries and incisions to be done on the area ruined by the scars and directly addresses the tissues that have been damaged. These tissues are treated so as to make the skin look smooth again.

With great power though, comes great expense. These treatments are not the types you can take cheaply so be very careful in your choice. Always choose the most credible practitioners when you want to have any of these treatments done. Do not, in any way settle for cheap treatments because these will usually end up as botched operations by incompetent and untrained practitioners just looking to make a buck out of all the hype.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
    Pimple solution?
Is it possible to get rid of pimples/zits if you freeze them with ice? What other remedies are there to prevent from getting pimples besides outside products?

    • ANSWER:
i have never heard of people using ice to freeze a pimple or zit.... but if you want clear skin, just make sure you are washing your face often when you sweat, or have oily skin. It keeps the pores unclogged and lower your chances of having pimples. Try to sleep more and drink a lot of water to purify your skin. Stress less if possible (=X) and try buying a acne face wash for oily skin (if that's what you have) (i recommend Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash - ) to wash every morning and night before you sleep or after you wake up to keep your skin clean and feeling unclogged. Also, an important thing is to not touch your face too often. the dirt and oil on your hand can trigger a pimple to grow on your face and i'm sure you don't want that..... so good luck and follow my advice. =D Hope you have clearer skin soon!

  2. QUESTION:
    pimple solution?
I have pretty bad acne....i have tried proactive and it works but it is expensive and ive heard it does damage to your skin in the longrun (not positive thats true anyways..) any suggestions?

    • ANSWER:
Mix 50% warm pure honey ,and 50% almond oil .Apply to face during bedtime for 20 minutes, than wash off with warm water.

  3. QUESTION:
What is the best solution to stop pimple break outs?
My face was always relatively clear. Until recently have I noticed that I am breaking out constantly. Sometimes little pimples and sometimes big. I try and take care of my face, wear relatively little make up, but I'm still breaking out. I know that it can be due to a lot of factors of why I'm breaking out but what it the best solution to stop it? I heard Proactiv is horrible and I'm not interested in it.

    • ANSWER:
Change your pillowcases more often. I've also found that, contrary to what you might think, heavier moisturizers help prevent breakouts. The less dry skin you have, the less likely the dry skin will clog your pores and make zits.

  4. QUESTION:
second best pimple solution to use without going to a dermatologist?
I dont have health ins. I'm 25, and it's awful I still have these hormonal break outs, red bumps, and whiteheads...what can I do? salycylic acid and benzoil peroxide don't do much at all if anything
all I ever drink is water, I eat healthy and exercise...its purely hormonal...thanks

    • ANSWER:
I totally empathise. I'm the same. I have found the Clinique anti blemish range to be very good. When going to bed I ensure I clean my face and use the pimple gel overnight. It really dries the spots up. Make sure that you moisturise your face as well though to avoid it drying out too much. Although the range is a little pricey, the bottles last up to 6 months to a year, which makes it worth while. The products are fragrance free and good for sensitive skin. I've been using it for the last few years and it has helped to keep my skin under control. Plus, you won't need to use the product every day once your skin starts to improve. Check out the link below.

  5. QUESTION:
Best pimple solution for sensitive skin?
Grad pics are coming up and I have an extremly bad breakout. I have tried lots of things. Oxy and the toothpaste method have just made it worse. I am currently using Spectro Jel - Combination Skin. I can't tell if it's working or not. Please list inexpencive products or home remidies. Remember, something gentle for sensitive skin. I also have a very oily nose full of blackheads. PLEASE HELP!

    • ANSWER:
Try 10% benzoyl peroxide. Put it on kinda heavy on your nose and light everywhere else before bed. After showering in the morning, put an even coat everywhere on your face.

If that gets too red/dry, drop down to the 2.5%.

I have VERY sensitive skin and it gives me no problems, but everyone is different.

Every brand name makes it, but you can also buy the store brand version. Check the ingredients listing and it will tell you.

I like Walgreens store brand better than name brands. The consistency isn't like clay, and it absorbs into my skin fast.

To counter-act the drying effects, you can buy an oil-free moisturizer to put lightly over top after it dries. Just a small dab should do you...

  6. QUESTION:
What a fast solution for removing my pimple marks?
I dont have pimples now, but the thing that bothers me are my pimple marks. These red colored spots around my face. Can you help me remove them fast?! I went to the dermatologist but they just used 'Acne Treatment'. This treatment removed the pimples in my face but the areas in which my pimples where before appeared reddish. How do i remove them?! Is Diamond Peel going to help me?!
I'm Currently Using Eskinol Oil Control Dermaclear -C Overnight pimple gel, its really effective, it really prevents pimples but previous pimples needs time to heal, my pimples are gone. but the previous pimples left red marks this contains salicilyc acid. SHould i continue using this?! I also have ponds Detox Cream in order to lessen the darkness of the spots. but after 1 week of trying it's still noticable.... >,,,,<

    • ANSWER:
The products you are using, are they salycic acid or benzolyl peroxide? BP can be VERY drying. I personally like SA better. Almost all washes have it. They try finding a face lotion with it in it. Clean and clear has a good moisturizer with SA and it helps keep pimples at bay. Personally, I use Biore products (which you get over the counter. Their products range from -). They are harsh on pimples, but not on your face. I think you will just need to experiment with products until you find what works for you. Remember, it can take 1 month for products to fully begin working!
Personally, Proactive didn't work for me. I have been using Biore products for over a year and I hardly ever break out! Occasionally I will get one or two, but nothing bad. For body acne I use Neutrogena acne body wash I never break out on my body. It gets 110 in summer so sweat in inevitably, yet I never break out. Give it a try. All of it is cheap too. About -10 depending on what you buy! Salysic acid it really good. It is in almost all acne washes. Benzoyl Peroxide is too drying fo rme! Good luck

    • ANSWER:
Pimples are defined as raised red bumps.
I've treated hundreds of patients who are worried about colour, size and duration of pimples, and I can tell you that acne will not go away in a day or two. There is NO QUICK FIX. It won’t just go away by itself. Acne is caused by a rise in androgen hormones (primarily testosterone) and this obviously occurs in adolescents going through puberty. These androgen hormones tell your sebaceous glands how much oil to produce, and too many hormones give too many signals for more and more oil. Thus, your oil glands grow bigger in order to accommodate for the 'more oil' command. Obviously, excess oil then mixes with dead skin cells and bacteria to clog up your pores.

So my advice is topical antibiotic such as duac WITH retinoids containing adapalene AND of course, an antibiotic, doxy or minocycline. That's if you want to kill it as quickly as possible (6-12 weeks unfortunately). Antibiotics are obviously for more severe acne so it’s really up to you whether you think your acne is severe or not.

For maintaining the occasional single breakouts, here is what i propose.
Pimples are any indication of inflammatory acne. Inflammation is the result of blood vessels and white corpuscles rushing to the site of the pimple to help attack the bacteria we call P.acnes for short.
Now swelling, is a direct result of inflammation. What a lot of people don't actually know, is that the swelling of a pimple can actually spread acne.
This is because when the skin swells, the pores around the pimple tighten and close up, blocking the sebum's discharge route.

BP 5% or 10% (benzoyl peroxide) usually is fine for 'speeding up' the process of eradicating P.acnes but the trick is to apply ice over the area first IN PREPARATION for the BP. This preparatory technique increases the penetration of BP as well as reducing swelling and inflammation.

      Let me explain.
I'm sure you know that inflammation and swelling from sports injuries are dealt with ice.
The principle is the same here.
By applying ice on for 1 minute before applying BP, then another ten minutes with the BP on,
you slow the rate that blood vessels/white corpuscles rush to the site of the pimple.
Thus, the redness, inflammation and swelling is reduced.
Now, patients often say to me, '"But doesn't that mean less WBC (white blood cells) are rushing to the site to kill the P.acnes bacteria?"
That question is absolutely right. Yes, less WBC are rushing to the site.

HOWEVER, this is only temporary for as long as the ice is applied. The upside of this is that a new rush of WBC and red blood cells rush in AFTERWARDS to rewarm the area. They do so gradually so that there is no sudden new inflammation.

Here is the explanation more simply:
Swelling of the pimple closes surrounding pores and spreads the condition.
      Ice reduces inflammation and swelling.
Therefore, ice open pores around and on the pimple.
BP can penetrate deeper through open pores.

Secondly, miracle healings don't happen overnight.I always believe benzoyl peroxide is never enough because most doctors give BP as a spot treatment just for the pimple. The thing is that more pimples come up around the place and in places never seen before because those areas are not treated.
I usually recommend my patients with retinoids containing adapalene, but it's up to you really.

Last point. All the bullshit you hear about tea tree oil, lemon juice, toothpaste, vitamin e oil, etc. helping you? USELESS. As a dermatologist, I've worked for over 10 years and the evidence for these 'home remedies' is absolutely crap. Please don't waste your time with these. To get to the problem of acne, you can't just spot-treat pimples with these things, acne is caused by overactive sebaceous glands from excessive androgen hormones, dead skin cells and clogged pores. It's a complex process and there is no quick fix. Sorry, but the truth is sometimes ugly to hear. I always want to tell my patients the ugly truth. THERE IS NO QUICK FIX. It’s an ugly truth, but it’s the truth nonetheless.

  10. QUESTION:
i am 13 and i need a pimple working solution?
im starting to get pimples on my forejad and really tiny ones on my chin what is a great product that works for me? im a guy.

    • ANSWER:
I have been using the Clearasil Acne System (about at Walmart) for about 2 weeks and it has worked wonders!!! Seriously, my skin looks beautiful!! Plus it has a money-back guarantee! I would also try to drink 6-8 glasses of water. Water is always really good for clearing skin, and definately don't pick it or you will get acne scars and it will take twice as long to heal.
